Sensitive Skin Products

The number of people around the world suffering from sensitive skin seems to be increasing an atmosphere full of potential toxins from our industrial progress but what does it mean exactly when you say you have sensitive skin. Well sensitive skin is one which is unable to tolerate any unfavorable conditions like the environment for example, and which easily gets irritated on contact with foreign materials including skin care products.

Owing to the nature of the problem it is not possible to devise sensitive skin care products that suit each and every one of us. What is know however, is that almost everyone that has hyper-sensitive skin will have a reaction to any type of detergent and other cleaning products.

The problem arises because it may take some time before the condition is recognized for what it is. Obviously the tolerance level for those individuals with sensitive skin is much lower which means that skin damage might be more rapid and noticeable.

A few tips for choosing the right sensitive skin care products are suggested below, these are products which where possible avoid known skin irritants or reduce them to the lowest concentration possible. By using only sensitive skin care products you will dramatically reduce the sensitivity you experience but the products contents will still need to be looked at.

To be on the safe side, make sure as many of the possible problem ingredients are missing and the product is as natural and neutral as possible. Try to avoid the use of any type of skin toner as they almost always use alcohol as the primary ingredient which will cause skin irritation if you suffer with sensitive skin.

If you are doing the laundry make sure you protect your hands with gloves as detergent can even cause problems for people who do not have sensitive skin and if rubber gloves also cause irritation, you can always wear cotton gloves underneath them. Whilst that may be one problem to deal with, sunlight and bright sunshine is another so ensure a tested and proprietary sun cream is used when you venture out in the sun.

This type of precaution is also relevant even if it isn't sunny as the atmospheric pollution found almost everywhere now will also aggravate the skin and a suitable barrier cream or hypoallergenic moisturizer should help protect vulnerable skin. Use soap-free and alcohol free cleansers and cleanse your face whenever you return from spending time out doors but do not scrub or exfoliate too hard as it can cause reddishness and even inflammation.

Never leave makeup on for extended periods and wherever possible use hypoallergenic makeup removal products that will not make the skin worse. Although it can be frustrating having sensitive skin, it is not the end of the world and with a little forethought it can be something that it is possible to live with day to day without too much inconvenience.
